A Raleigh man was shot and killed as police attempted to serve a warrent on a drug charge yesterday afternoon.

Media outlets are reporting that 24-year-old Akiel Denkins, a father of two, had a long criminal record. The police officer who shot him was 29-year-old D.C. Twiddy. He is on administrative leave while the State Bureau of Investigation investigates the case.

Bystanders said the victim was running from police when he was shot and killed. Police are saying that a gun was found in close proximity to Denkins’ body.

The shooting occurred at Bragg Street and East Street in southeast Raleigh.
