Knight died February 16, 1922. He was buried next to Rachel even though it was illegal then for Blacks and whites to buried at the same cemetery.

Knight’s tombstone reads, “He Lived For Others.”

A movie focusing on Knight’s life, The Free State of Jones starring Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey (pictured) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw will be released in 2016.
