In the wake of Gov. Nikki Haley asking for the Confederate flag to be removed from state capitol grounds in South Carolina, several retailers have decided to stop selling merchandise that features the divisive symbol. However, should we be applauding these companies or asking what the heck took them so long?

Even the Indian-American South Carolina governor who just said yesterday that the flag should come down, didn’t seem to feel the same way in the past. The tone of the flag conversation has suddenly changed now that 9 people are dead and everyone from President Obama to Mitt Romney have said the flag should be removed.

Suddenly, Walmart, Sears and eBay have vowed to stop selling merchandise that features the flag. However, according to CNN, Amazon.com has yet to respond to an inquiry regarding their sales of Confederate flag items.
