The race for necessities like bread, milk and toilet paper is underway. A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect from midnight tonight to 6 pm on Saturday. The Triangle could see a 1 to 4 inch accumulation of snow and sleet along with a quarter to half inch of ice.
Are you Prepared for wintry weather?
-Stock up on an emergency supply of food and water prior to the onset of a winter storm. Ie… canned meats, peanut butter and other non-perishables.
-Have a sufficient supply of heating fuel(including firewood).
-Keep a flashlight on hand, a battery-powered radio, extra batteries and first aid kit.
-Be careful when using emergency heating equipment. A wood burning stove, fireplace or space heater may be your only single room heat source should you lose your primary heating source.
-Always safely operate portable generators outdoors in a well ventilated area.
-Prevent water pipes from freezing by wrapping them in insulation or newspaper covered with plastic. When the weather is severely cold, let each faucet drip a bit to avoid freezing.
-Do not cook or heat your home using a charcoal grill, gas grill or camp stove inside of your house. Deadly carbon monoxide fumes may drift into your home. Always use the above mentioned outside.
