One year ago the Millbrook girls basketball team left the floor of the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill in tears after losing to Southwest Guilford in the state championship game.
When the Wildcats left Reynolds Coliseum on Saturday one year later, they were all smiles though.
Millbrook pulled away in the fourth quarter on its way to a 57-40 win over West Forsyth in the 4-A Girls Basketball State Championship game.
The Wildcats led almost the entire game.
After the first quarter, Millbrook led West Forsyth 15-11, and they extended that lead to 25-19 going into the half.
In the third quarter, the Titans fought back. With just seconds remaining in the period, Millbrook was clinging to a 2-point lead, but a buzzer-beating lay-up by Ryan Flowers set the tone for the rest of game.
Millbrook outscored West Forsyth 21-8 in the fourth quarter to claim the victory.
Flowers earned Most Outstanding Player honors for Millbrook with 15 points and six rebounds. Briana Day was named the Kay Yow Most Valuable Player with 17 points and six rebounds.
The Wildcats also got a big performance from guard Mykia Jones who had 15 points, including going 2-of-5 from 3-point range.
Senior Tori Cook was named the Most Outstanding Player for West Forsyth. She finished with 11 points.
