The Justice Department plans to move ahead with criminal charges against the former senator and presidential candidate John Edwards. Edwards is accused of misuse of campaign funds to cover up an affair with his mistress. Edwards has been the subject of a two-year investigation whether he used more than $1 million from political donors to hide his affair with Rielle Hunter.
Edwards has two options if he is indicted: a plea bargain or go to court and risk a jail sentence. He could lose his license and no longer be able to practice law if he settles for a plea bargain.
