A child was born on May 13, 1950. Born Stevland Hardaway Judkins, later changed to Stevland Hardaway Morris, and even later changed to what we all know him by today as Stevie Wonder. The Grandfather of Grammys, the pioneer of peace, and one of the only people I know who’s able to pull off a dashiki so cool.

Stevie Wonder has been an icon for as long as many can remember. Stevie is timeless. From being one of the first African Americans to perform on television coming in crystal clear even in black and white. Stevie has passed through the decades spreading the same message and serving the same purpose, to wake us up make us remember what life is about, love, peace, respect, and fighting for what’s right.

Stevie has impacted the lives of many generations and has remained relevant when so many come and go. Remember seeing Stevie on his album covers in the 70’s all skinny with the Shaft look? Remember Stevie on the Cosby Show, “Jammin on the one, jammin on the one”. Wait, but do you remember Stevie in that Volkswagen commercial? That was this year and he still is the man. See what I mean, timeless.

On behalf of Radio One we would like to wish Stevie Wonder a very blessed and happy birthday.

It’s usually Stevie’s song that we’re singing to someone else but this time it’s for you Stevie! (Now, sing it with me everyone)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YA! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YA! HAPPY BIIIIIRTHDAAAAAY!
