Everyone is talking about  Kim Kardashian-West freeing 17 prisoners in the past 30 days. Is not quite true. Kardashian-West was a factor in the release of the prisoners, but it was two black lawyers who actually did the work. Attorney Brittany K. Barnet and attorney MiAngel Cody created The Buried Alive Project are the ones who actually freed the prisoners.

Kardashian – West was very instrumental in helping to fund the organization and because of her name and notoriety, people took notice of it. The organization had reached out to several other groups to help with funding and to get noticed, but Kardashian-West was the only one who helped out.

Barnet posted on Facebook, “Kim linked arms with us to support us when foundations turned us down. We and our clients and their families have a lot of love for her and are deeply grateful for her. Regardless of who helped fund us for the past three months, in 90 days TWO black women lawyers freed SEVENTEEN people from LIFE W/O PAROLE sentences – the second most severe penalty permitted by law in America. Only two of us.”

Here is her full statement.

So if you were wondering HOW Kim K released all of those people, now you know. Kim was the face, but there are real lawyers doing the real work. Look at that Black Girl Magic do it!
