J.J. Abrams and Tavis Smiley have a lot of projects in the works. They’re teaming up to create a miniseries about Michael Jackson’s final months, based on Smiley’s book “Before You Judge Me: The Triumph and Tragedy of Michael Jackson’s Last Days.” The book delves into the highs and lows of Jackson’s life and his constant hunt for personal privacy.

No network has picked up the show yet, but Smiley and Abrams will serve as executive producers. Their production companies, Smiley TV and Bad Robot, recently announced they’re also developing a television series about Smiley’s 2014 book, “Death of a King: The Real Story of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Final Year.”

Jackson died in 2009 just weeks before the launch of his comeback concert series. His drug-related death was ruled a homicide, and his personal doctor Conrad Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

Smiley is also working with Warner Bros. Television on an adaptation of his book “My Journey With Maya,” a memoir of his 30-year friendship with poet Maya Angelou.
