In the midst of diversity in Hollywood, media mogul Russell Simmons decided to throw his own awards ceremony. Simmons throws shade at the Oscars with the All Def Movie Awards, hosted by Tony Rock, (Oscar-host Chris Rock’s brother).
The All Def Academy, named Beasts Of No Nation, Creed, Straight Outta Compton, Chi-Raq, Concussion, and Dope as nominees for Best Picture. All six films were ignored by the 2016 Academy Awards.
The All Def Awards feature a mix of traditional categories for best picture, actor, actress and such along with such distinctive competitions as “Best Helpful White Person” and “Best Black Survivor in a Movie.”
Simmons says, It’s not a protest,” “It’s a celebration, a celebration of people who otherwise would not be celebrated.”
The All Def Awards air tonight at 7 p.m. ET on Fusion.
