Tom Joyner may be the hardest working man in show business but he’d concede the crown to Frankie Beverly as the hardest working man in the music business. Bolstered by their showmanship and the classic Black party song “Before I Let Go,” Frankie Beverly and Maze have been working, touring and making music for four decades.

And it doesn’t look like they’re going to stop anytime soon. Like their closest counterpart in longevity in the rock world, the Rolling Stones, they just keep on touring. Just this month, they’ve been at the Essence Festival and at the Taste of Chicago in Grant Park and next they are heading to the 2015 Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion.

“I think we’ve done two of those things before yesterday,” Beverly says of the Grant Park Show. “But nothing like yesterday,” Beverly says. “That’s something that will remain in my mind forever. The love the audience gave us, I can’t even explain it.”

While Beverly probably won’t be taking any fashion cues from the Tom Joyner Morning Show after they suggested he mix up his traditional monochromatic color scheme, he does appreciate the love he gets not just from them but from fans. There’s no place that’s more evident that the Essence Festival, where he recently returned after a 10-year absence.

“It was wonderful. It’s a little different how they got the stage set up but the crowd was right there as if we were there yesterday,” Beverly says of his return to Essence.  But he says he’s saving the best show for the Family Reunion.
