Monica Lewinsky is back in the headlines and there’s no scandal behind it. Monica took part in the highly-anticipated TED Talk yesterday, where she discussed how the internet affected the aftermath of affair with former president Bill Clinton. 1998, Monica was brought to the public’s attention, when her relationship with Clinton became public when she was just a 22-year-old internet at the White House. Monica’s speech at the Vancouver event focused on, “a safer and more compassionate social media environment,” according to TED’s website, which she based on her on experience once the fallout from the affair took place.

At Monica’s presentation, The Price Of Shame, she described how the internet created such a huge significance on her affair, that nearly brought down Clinton’s presidency. Monica stated:

This scandal was brought to you by the digital revolution. It was the first time traditional news was usurped by the Internet, a click that reverberated around the whole world.

She ain’t lying about that. Monica told the crowd New Jersey college student, Tyler Clementi, who committed suicide in 2010 after he was cyber-bullied for being gay, made her realize she too was a victim and wanted to do more. Monica recalled:

Tyler’s tragic, senseless death was a turning point for me. It served to re-contextualize my experiences. I began to look at the world of humiliation and bullying around me and see something different… Every day online, people — especially young people who are not developmentally equipped to handle this — are so abused and humiliated that they can’t imagine living to the next day.
