The N.C. Department of Transportation is looking for the public’s input on proposed rule changes. THE CHANGES would allow experienced state drivers to skip several examinations during an online license renewal process.
The changes would:
1. Allow for the remote renewal of a driver’s license, provided that the applicant is a resident of North Carolina and their name hasn’t changed.
2. Remove the written test for remote renewals
3. Remove the road sign test requirement for remote renewals
4. Remove the road test requirement for remote renewals
5. Remove the photo requirement for remote renewals, provided that the applicant has an existing DMV photo on file.
