nypdIn response to the nationwide protests over the grand jury’s decision not to indict white New York City police officer Daniel Pantaleo for the chokehold death of African-American Eric Garner, the city’s “finest” is holding their own #ThankyouNYPD Pro Cop Rally on December 19 at New York’s City Hall.

The organized event will reportedly include “ThankyouNYPD” banners and is expected to draw throngs of participants to bolster support and salute the men in blue.

The NYPD’s last pro-cop rally took place in September on Staten Island where many of the city’s police officers reside.  The event which was put together by the Citizens in Support for All Law Enforcement Agencies occurred one month after the anti-police rally in Staten Island organized by MSNBC Host and civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton.  There were a few hundred attendees at the pro-cop rally with many in attendance blasting the media for their biased coverage of police officers.  Many supporters donned hats and gear with the NYPD logo and there were quite a number of “We (Heart) the NYPD signs.  The event also included a program where police were honored and a roll call that included a bagpiper playing taps music followed by a moment of silence for those who had laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Now in the wake of the Garner decision, perhaps there might not be as many in attendance at the rally this go-round, as countless folks across the country, both black and white have taken to the streets to protest the indictment decision.  Many are not only angry but baffled as to how Garner’s senseless death at the hands of police went unpunished.

Many folks have already hit social media to respond to the #ThankYouNYPD site to express their ire about the NYPD’s bully tactics, callous treatment towards minorities.
