Congratulations to NCCU student Marcus Joyner, on winning a role in the sequel to the 2002 motion picture, “Drumline.” Joyner credits his older brother, Cleveland for being an inspiration and mentor in developing his interest in drums.

At NCCU, Marcus plays snare drum, vibraphone, chimes, marimbas and the xylophone, and participates in the marching band in the fall and the symphonic band in the spring. In addition to his college activities, Marcus remains active with the Warren County High School band and drum-line mentoring current students.

Joyner is one of 48 students selected for a drum-line role, and will be performing as a member of the fictional Atlanta A&T drumline or one of its main rivals as a “double” for an actor who could not match his musical skills.

“Drumline: A New Beat” is being produced by cable/satellite channel VH1 in partnership with Fox Television Studios. The movie’s premiere is scheduled for this fall.
