The biopic marks James Brown’s rise from extreme poverty to become one of the most influential musicians in history. The story follows Brown’s mother,(played by Viola Davis), who abandoned her son at age 6, and his aunt (played by Octavia Spencer), who raised James in a brothel. The James Brown biopic set for U.S. release on Aug. 1.
