manufacturingPresident Obama on Tuesday will announce the opening of manufacturing institutes in Detroit and Chicago that will attract and nurture businesses.  They’ll also provide high paying jobs.  The Department of Defense will give 140 million dollars toward the project.  The Detroit institute will focus on modern and lightweight metals and the Chicago institute will focus on digital manufacturing and design technologies.  Pres. Obama’s focus for his 2nd term in office was to make life better for low and middle income families, by expanding manufacturing jobs, many of which were lost because U.S. companies looked abroad for cheaper labor.  The manufacturing institutes will take advantage of the abundance of world class universities to attract companies that want to be close to research and skilled workers  The goal is to have 45 institutes throughout the country; last month the administration announced the first manufacturing institute will be in Raleigh.  Our local institute will focus on spurring development of energy efficient high power electronic chips that make electronic devices, like motors and consumer electronics, smaller amnd faster.
