Last spring Jason Collins annonced he is gay; he didn’t have a contract for the 2013-14 season. The Brooklyn Nets and Collins have reached an agreement on a 10 day contract, making him the first openly gay athlete in a major professional sport. Collins hasn’t played since the end of last season when he was a memnber of the Washington Wizards.. He previously played with the Nets from 2001 to 2008 and current Nets coach Jason Kidd was one of his teammates. Collins also played with current Nets Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett in Boston with the Celtics. Collins is scheduled to play with the Nets tonight in Los Angeles against the Lakers.
