Gather unwanted books and head over to Historic Yates Mill County Park for an afternoon book exchange to celebrate International Literacy Day. This event is free, and registration is not required. Tuesday, September 24 -Thursday, September 26, 1-4 p.m.– Track Out Days: Wild Frontier

Learn how to build a fire, churn butter, and make music with a rubber band banjo at Crowder District Park. This program is for students in kindergarten through 5th grade, and the fee is $12 per day or $30 for all three Track Out Days, including the mill tour. Registration is required. Take A Child Outside Week

Wake Parks is participating in Take A Child Outside Week, Tuesday, September 24, through Monday, September 30, by offering the following outdoor programs at different parks during the week. In honor of this important week, program fees have been waived. Learn more at takeachildoutside.org.

·        Thursday, September 26, 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. – Here, Fishy, Fishy

Catch fish and other aquatic wildlife using a variety of methods at Lake Crabtree County Park. Participants will observe and identify the critters they catch, and learn basic fish anatomy and life history. Registration is required. To register, call 919-460-2723. Meet at the Floodplain. Lake Crabtree is located at 1400 Aviation Parkway, Morrisville.

·        Thursday, September 26, 2-3 p.m. – Trail Treks: Fox Run

Discover the fascinating world of foxes and learn about the two different species that live along the American Tobacco Trail.  Meet at the New Hill Parking Area. For information, call 919-387-2117. American Tobacco Trail is located at 1309 New Hill-Olive Chapel Road, New Hill.

·        Friday, September 27, 6-9 p.m. – Park After Dark

End the summer with an evening at Park After Dark at Harris Lake County Park and enjoy a night of fishing, night hikes, star-gazing, flashlight games or roasting marshmallows. Bring a flashlight, camp chair, water bottle and dress for the weather. All persons 16 and older who wish to fish must have a license. Fishing poles will be provided if you do not have one.
