Apex High Senior Justin Perkins made history Friday night by debuting as the school’s firs black drum major. Perkins has been playing the tuba since the fourth grade and says he always dreamt of being a drum major.
There are 130 members in the Apex High School Marching band. Paul Rowe, the band director, has described Justin as a talented musician who has fulfilled his destiny of becoming a band leader, according to WRAL.
Perkins says he hopes to continue playing the tuba as a student at North Carolina State next year.
