Now that the Chapel Hill Public Library is back in its renovated, expanded and upgraded digs, the library also has big plans for summer activities for kids.

They include free Friday afternoon movies through Aug. 16. But you’ll also find crafts and live performances.

Here’s what’s on tap:

  • 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., June 26: Rags to Riches Theatre presents Little Red Riding Hood
  • 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., July 10: Family concert featuring Alina Celeste. She’s known for “finding old folk songs and brushing them off for a whole new generation of music-makers, as well as for her unique and playful original material,” according to the library’s website.
  • 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., July 17: Bright Star Theatre presents Greece Lightning, a program all about Ancient Greece.
  • 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., July 24, Birdman Dave presents How Birds Learn to Read. The program features live birds as they teach people “how to read the forest,” according to the library.
  • 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., Aug. 7: A family concert featuring Baron Von Rumblebuss playing kids music that rocks.

Check the library’s website for more information, including details about a couple of craft programs. No pre-registration is required for the performances. The library is at 100 Library Dr. in Chapel Hill.
