One of the best feelings in the world is when your ride turns heads.  Some styling trends though are worthless, unnecessary, useless; BUT if you like the way they make your car look……..

Fake Fender Vents.  Buick introduced Ventports in 1948 and for a time they were functional;  In 1996 the BMW – Z3 sported a fake fender vent and the trend was started.

Automatic Shifters.  Older cars have automatic shifters that are connected to the transmission, but new car shifters may only shift electrons in a computer module.  The console stick now seems kind of pointless, especially when it’s ratcheted and weighted to feel mechanical.

Stuck Tail Lights.  When using incandescent bulbs, car designers cut down on complexity by signaling brake, turn and night illumination with the same bulb; with LED lights there’s no need for that design quirk.  The best and least ambiguous designs have a separate element for each function, which will let the driver tailgating you know your exact intentions.

Over Sized Grilles.  They were necessary for muscle cars, to get enough airflow to keep them cool, (eg/1970 Ford Mustang); today’s cars have more efficient cooling systems.  Look closely, most sedans and crossovers breath through a small portion of their over sized grilles.

Illuminated Gauges and Daytime Running Lights.  Full time illuminated dashboards can cause you to forget to turn on your headlights; daytime running lights are dimmer than your low beams.
