Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner was arrested on DUI and speeding charges Tuesday morning in Gwinnett County (Ga.), Cpl. Edwin Ritter told NFL.com and NFL Network.

Ritter said Turner, 30, was bonded out of Gwinnett County Jail at 5 a.m. ET. Bond for the DUI charge was $2,006 and bond for the speeding charge was $173. Turner was arrested “around 2 a.m.,” Ritter said.

“We are aware of the situation involving Michael and are in the process of gathering more information,” the Falcons said in a statement. “Because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time.”

A Gwinnett County police officer pulled over Turner’s black Audi R8 on Interstate 85 northeast of Atlanta after clocking the car’s speed at 97 mph — 32 mph over the speed limit, Ritter said.

“The officer made contact with the driver who identified himself as 30-year-old Michael Turner of the Atlanta Falcons,” police said later in a news release. “The officer could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the driver and proceeded to conduct a DUI investigation.”

Ritter said the officer arrested Turner after a field sobriety test. The police incident report was not immediately available.

Turner’s arrest came just hours after the Falcons defeated the Denver Broncos 27-21 on “Monday Night Football.” Turner rushed for 42 yards on 17 carries in the game. He scored the game’s opening touchdown on a 1-yard run.

Coach Mike Smith said at a Tuesday news conference that he has spoken with Turner and that Turner’s arrest will be handled internally.

“Anytime a player sheds negatively on this team and organization, we’re disappointed,” Smith said’Turner is open to punishment by the NFL under its player-conduct policy.
