On April 6, 2011, I attended Broadway Night Out, A Raqiyah Mays Production, which presented The Filmmaker’s View:

An Evening of Tips & Bits From Those Who’ve Found Hollywood Success, Writer/Director/Producer, Nelson George

Nelson George has written numerous fiction & award-winning non-fiction books including Hip Hop America & his memoir City Kid. In the 80′s, he produced Spike Lee’s first film, “She’s Gotta Have It.” In the 90’s, he wrote the features Strictly Business & CB4. And in 2007, George wrote & directed Life Support. Produced by Jamie Foxx, the movie received Golden Globe, SAG, & Emmy nominations. The film’s star, Queen Latifah, received a Golden Globe & SAG award for acting. George later joined forces with Chris Rock to produce the Sundance award-winning documentary Good Hair. As executive producer of American Gangster for BET & Hip Hop Honors for VH1, he’s currently working on two films: The documentary Brooklyn Boheme, and the feature Migrations, about a group of black art thieves.

The Filmmaker’s View is a speaker series featuring successful filmmakers sharing the ups, down, ins & outs of making it in the film biz. Followed by a meet n’ greet, allowing attendees to mix & mingle, this series is for anyone who wants to write, make, or be in a movie that finds Hollywood success.
