Mathew Knowles, founder, President and C.E.O. of Music World Entertainment (MWE), built a monumental entertainment powerhouse resulting in global record-breaking achievements and award-winning acknowledgments.

VISIONARY

As the visionary manager and executive producer of the worldwide pop phenomenon Destiny’s Child; Mathew Knowles launched a company that would become a leading global conglomerate with ventures that would impact music, film, sports, product placement and community issues.   Destiny’s Child went on to become the “most successful girl group” in the history of popular music.     Selling over 100 million records and raked in over 155 awards including Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, MTV Awards (U.S. Europe and Asia), BET Awards, Billboard Awards and World Music Awards.  Billboard Magazine ranked the group as one of the greatest trios of all time and inducted them in 2008 into the All Time Hot 100 Artists.    Under the leadership of Mathew Knowles; Beyoncé, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland launched solo careers that marked unprecedented global success stories.  The Music World Music label imprint was established and has enjoyed an impressive track record of gold and platinum releases including soundtrack successes and groundbreaking contemporary gospel recordings.   MWE overall worldwide music sales exceed 200 million records.

Destiny’s Child leader, Beyoncé went on to break sales and chart records with unprecedented international success. Beyoncé has become a superstar and household name as a recording artist, actress, music and film producer and leading philanthropist with a history of awards, chart topping achievements and commercial successes.  Beyoncé dominated the music charts this decade with her songs spending the Most Weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, more than any other recording artist.   She has the most Top 40, Top 20, Top 10 and Top 5 hit records over the past 10 years and the most cumulative time spent at #1.   Beyoncé has had at least one Top 5 hit every year on the Billboard Hot 100 chart since 1998 totaling 22.   Her total career Top 40 hits are 31. Her international awards and accolades are marked with prestige and just keep coming; Golden Globe nomination, Grammy Awards, MTV Awards (U.S. Europe and Asia), American Music Awards, BET Awards, Soul Train Awards, World Music Awards and many more. Michelle Williams, of Destiny’s Child, managed by Mathew Knowles and signed to the Music World Music label topped the Gospel Charts at #1 with her debut solo album.   Under Music World Entertainment management, Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child, won a Grammy Award for her duet with recording artist Nelly and sold over two million albums resulting in two international #1 singles and a #1 album to her credit.

The Knowles family has become an American dynasty.  Solange exemplifies that talent runs deep within the family.  Her album, Sol-Angel and The Hadley St. Dreams produced four consecutive #1 singles, #1 music videos and a Top 5 album.  Vibe Magazine and Blender Magazine listed her single as one of the Top Songs of 2008.   Solange holds the record for the most #1 dance singles over the past year, more than any other artist.  Solange starred in the film “Bring It On: All Or Nothing”, which broke the record for selling more DVDs in the first week of release than any other in the history of the format.  Sales exceeded 750,000 copies during the debut week.

Recording artist, Lyfe Jennings had his first #1 Billboard R&B Album debut on the Music World Music label.

Beyoncé partnerships include: Samsung (Beyoncé Special Edition B’Phone), American Express, Giorgio Armani Diamonds, L’Oreal, DirecTV, Verizon, Samantha Thavasa, Nintendo, Pepsi and the Crystal Geyser water campaign in Japan.  Destiny’s Child had a national campaign with Pepsi and a worldwide with McDonald’s.  Kelly Rowland’s partnerships include: Vaseline and Soft Sheen.    Solange partnerships include: Armani, L’Oreal, Ocean Pacific, Deréon, and Samantha Thavasa.

FILMS AND SOUNDTRACKS

Mathew Knowles’ success has crossed over to film.   He is Executive Producer of the #1 box-office hit, “Obsessed” starring Beyoncé. This marked three consecutive #1 box-office debuts for Beyoncé, following “Austin Powers – Goldmember” (2002) and “The Pink Panther” (2006).   Music World Music label released the award winning “Dreamgirls” soundtrack from the motion picture that starred Beyoncé and earned her a Golden Globe nomination.  Other MWM soundtracks include: “Cadillac Records” starring Beyoncé, Fighting Temptations,” soundtrack from the Paramount/MTV film starring Beyoncé and Cuba Gooding, Jr. which spent four weeks at #1 on the Billboard Gospel chart; the soundtrack from “Roll Bounce” and the soundtrack for MTV’s “Carmen: A Hip Hopera” starring Beyoncé, Mekhei Phifer and Mos Def.

MUSIC WORLD MUSIC LABELS

Mathew Knowles has established several successful recording labels and joint venture partnerships with Sony Music, Interscope/Geffen and Fontana/Universal.   Music World Music initially created a joint venture with Destiny’s Child and Sony Music, the relationship expanded to Columbia Records and the parent company releasing projects with other MWE artists.  Top Music World Music album releases include: Destiny’s Child’s gold album “This Is The Remix”; Destiny’s Child’s platinum album, “8 Days of Christmas” and the inspirational #1 solo debut by Michelle Williams “Heart to Yours” and Solange’s debut, “Solo Star”.   The venture released music from Nickelodeon’s popular entertainment cartoon, Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!     The joint venture with Solange and Interscope/Geffen resulted in the critically acclaimed album, “Sol-AngeL and the Hadley St. Dreams”.

Music World Music’s gospel label, Spirit Rising, produced #1 albums in the format. The Spirit Rising roster includes top recording artist in the genre: Michelle Williams, Brian Courtney Wilson, Trin-i-tee 5:7 and Pastor Rudy Rasmus.   Notable releases on the label include: Best of Gospel Superfest, the acclaimed debut album from the Detroit gospel quartet Ramiyah, “Spirit Rising” gospel compilation series and the Pastor Rudy Experience.

Music World Music’s popular Music World Master Series has released albums by legends Chaka Kahn and The O’Jays.   A holiday collection of classic songs, “Music World Master Series: Holiday” features artists, Beyonce, Destiny’s Child, Brian Courtney Wilson and Trin-i-tee 5:7.

The family oriented music label, Music World Kids has released youth projects: Krazy Kuzins, Kid’s Rap Radio and the Music World Kids CD 5-pack MWE acquired the label, Compadre, the Country, Rock and Christian label has a catalog of over 30 albums including works by legend Johnny Cash, Billy Joe Shaver, Trent Willmon and James McMurtry.

MERCHADISE / TOYS

Music World Entertainment has developed a toy line of Nickelodeon’s Wubb Girlz from the popular TV show Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!   Another “hip-hop” toy line, Baby Jamz was inspired by Mathew Knowles’ grandson, Julez, son of Solange and is sold exclusively at Wal-Mart.

INVESTMENTS & PROPERTY HOLDINGS

Mathew Knowles oversees Music World Properties. Partnered with Beyoncé, the company has interests in real estate with the ownership and development of condominiums, office buildings, investment properties and other entities (independent labels, management, production and an investment arm).   Expanding to the world of sports, Mathew Knowles and Michelle Williams are equity owners of the WNBA team, Chicago Sky.

The Music World Entertainment office complex showcases the House of Deréon entertainment venue that houses a rehearsal hall, state of the art recording studio and media center.  The facility occupies an entire city block in downtown Houston and serves as the headquarters of Music World Entertainment.

PHILANTHROPY

Philanthropy has played an important part in the lives of The Knowles family.  Mathew Knowles,Tina Knowles, Beyoncé and Solange have established the “Survivor Foundation,” “The Knowles Rowland Center” and the “Knowles Rowland Temenos House” (St. Johns Downtown Houston). In addition to these important projects they donate to numerous non-profit organizations throughout the world.   The concert tours have played an important part to help combat world hunger with the launch of The Beyoncé Experience Tour Food Drive, “I AM…” Tour Food Drive and the Beyoncé Experience Global Food Drive.

HOUSE OF DERÉON

House of Deréon is the umbrella for the clothing lines Deréon, Ms. Tina, and Deréon Girls created by Mathew’s wife Tina Knowles and BeyoncéTina Knowles and Beyoncé are the creative forces and Mathew Knowles heads the strategic marketing for all the clothing lines and parent company, Beyond Productions.  The label has garnered exceptional media coverage in the U.S. and internationally, including a special segment on the Oprah Show with Tina Knolwes and Beyoncé.  The Ms. Tina line is featured on the Home Shopping Network (HSN).

DOCTORATE, DEGREE, AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Mathew Knowles was bestowed with the honor of Doctor of Humane Letters from his alma mater Fisk University, at the 2008 Commencement Ceremony.   He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the same University. He has personally garnered many awards for his achievements in business and within the music industry.  He was named the “2007 International Executive of the Year” by the Greater Houston Partnership and honored by the City of Houston with the declaration of  “Mathew Knowles Day“.   He is a popular guest lecturer and faculty at Texas Southern University.

A LIFE OF SUCCESS

Mathew Knowles discovered his passion for music and hard work at an early age growing up in the small town of Gadsden, Alabama. He earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Fisk University. A self-described “small town country boy,” Mathew Knowles credits his parents with instilling both drive and strong family-centered values within him.  His mother was a strong advocate of desegregation and integration and as a result he was the first African-American in his junior high school and Gadsden High School and at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga.   Following college he began a career as a sales and marketing representative for Xerox in his hometown of Houston, Texas.   He then became one of the top selling executives at the company nationally.   To follow was a historical journey for Mathew Knowles.

It was his passion that sparked a fire, the drive to make a difference and the determination to become the best that formed the foundation to building a successful entertainment empire called Music World Entertainment.
