Broadway and Television veteran, Dixie Carter dies of cancer at age 70. Dixie Carter was known most from her role on Designing Women as Julia Sugarbaker. Carter potrayed Sugarbaker with a southern accent, the owner of an interior decorarting firm. Designing Women was a CBS sitcom that ran 1986-1993. Carter is survived by her husband Hal Holbrook and their three daughters. Mary, Dixie and Ginnia. Holbrook has disclosed to a written statement to the media “This has been a terrible blow to our family, we would appreciate everyone’s understanding that this is a private family tradgety.
