Despite requests from the St. Louis Police Officer’s Association to discipline the five St. Louis Rams players who entered the football field at Sunday’s game and struck the “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” pose, the NFL has decided not to punish the players.

“We respect and understand the concerns of all individuals who have expressed views on this tragic situation,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports.

The players said the pose was not to pick sides in the divisive Michael Brown shooting case, but to show support for their community.
