If you are driving on I-40 this Thanksgiving weekend, expect to see extra law enforcement from coast to coast the I- 40 challenge is underway. Law enforcement partners are joining forces this week to keep a close watch on drivers along the Interstate 40 corridor and other interstates to achieve a goal of “zero deaths” this Thanksgiving holiday.
The challenge will take place on the busiest travel days of the Thanksgiving period, specifically from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26 and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30. NC HP will station a trooper every 20 miles on the I-40 corridor, and has requested increased law enforcement on all major interstates in NC.
Drivers can use a few simple safety tips while traveling this holiday season:
Do not tailgate
Use turn signals
Maintain appropriate speed
Plan ahead/use your mirrors
Do not text while driving
Wear your seatbelt
