Volunteer lawyers will meet with residents in Southeast Raleigh, Thursday, Oct. 18, to draft wills and other legal documents as part of a public service outreach event known as Project Will Power.

Up to 40 individuals who can’t afford legal service, will be able to meet with lawyers between 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to receive free consultation and services. Legal documents that will be provided free of charge during the event include wills, health care powers of attorney, financial powers of attorney, living wills and others.

A will can ensure that care and custody of minor children are settled according to parents’ wishes in the event of an untimely death, while powers of attorney may permit a trusted friend or family member to handle financial matters for someone incapacitated by a sudden accident or illness.

Participants who wish to prepare a will through Project Will Power should schedule an appointment by calling 919-530-5487. Financial powers of attorney, health care powers of attorney, and living wills are offered on a walk-in basis.

Project Will Power is a public service project co-sponsored by the North Carolina Central School of Law, Legal Aid of North Carolina and Raleigh Parks & Recreation. The event will take place at Top Green Community Center, 401 Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard in Raleigh.
