April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. As a result, the DSS Foster Home Licensing Unit is recruiting for more foster homes in Orange County, in an effort to continue keeping our children safe. Foster homes are needed for all children who are in the custody of DSS for various reasons. Foster families are needed throughout the County, but the target area is Chapel Hill, as the number of available homes in that part of the community is declining.

Orientation will take place on Thursday, April 24, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Hillsborough Commons Social Services Center, located at 113 Mayo Street in Hillsborough.

Foster parent training classes are held three times a year and recruitment efforts are ongoing. The next training class will take place on Thursday, May 15, 2014. Orientation is required before registering for class.

Trauma Informed: PS-MAPP (Partnering for Safety and Permanence-Model Approach to Partnerships In Parenting) training is state-mandated to become a licensed foster parent in North Carolina.

The Foster Home Licensing Unit reminds the community that children deserve a safe and loving home environment. Kids are worth it; to open our homes and our hearts.

For more information, please visit http://www.co.orange.nc.us/FosterCare  or to RSVP for orientation, please call DSS at 919.245.2710 or 919.245.2708.
