However, some people believe that Vick is the wrong person to speak at the event designed to honor the stars of local sports. More than 67,000 people have signed a petition to have him replaced because of his 2007 dealings with a dog-fighting ring. Event organizers say the intent is not to glorify Vick’s criminal past or animal abuse.
