The battle lines were drawn and now Marvin Gaye’s children can claim a victory and have settled with Sony/ATV. They sued music executives behind Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines hit, accusing the publishing company of trying to protect Thicke and the collaborators that they sampled from their father’s catalogue.
In the agreement it’s reported, Sony/Atv executives will not get caught up in the middle of a possible trial between Gaye’s family and Robin Thicke. You may recall Thicke sued Gaye’s kids to protect “Blurred Lines” from a potential plagiarism suit. While they settled with Sony/ATV, a legal battle between Gaye’s family and Robin Thicke over the similarities between “Blurred Lines” and “Got to Give It Up” is still ongoing.
