Five people were transported to Wake Med hospital last night after reportedly being thrown from a ride at the NC State Fair. It’s not yet clear if the incident is a result of operator error or simply an accident.
According to reports, people were in the process of getting off the ride when it suddenly re-started, tossing people to the ground. One of the injured included a ride operator. The ages of those affected ranged from 14-39.
As of this morning, three people are still in the hospital and one remains in critical condition.
The fair will be open today, but the ride involved, The Vortex, will remain closed. Investigators are requesting that anyone with video of the incident to contact the Wake County Sheriff’s office.
