An Elizabeth City woman was among those trapped inside the Kenyan mall when gunmen began throwing grenades and firing assault rifles. She said she saw the gunmen running in, and quickly found a place to hide. 30-year-old Bendita Malakia moved to Nairobi, Kenya in July to work with a financial company. On Saturday, she went to the Westgate Mall to have lunch with a friend at a cafe when gunmen stormed in.
At least 69 people are reported dead, gunfire and at least seven large explosions could be heard today with smoke pouring from the mall. A stand off between police and at least be 10 to 15 militants continues with 10 to 15 hostages being held at the mall.
