Get out of a rut this summer and enjoy a great family fun stay-cation! There’s plenty to do this weekend and it’s free. The NC Department of Cultural Resources offers programs that are authentic to North Carolina at historic sites, museums and the State Capitol. Here’s a list of activities on Saturday:

From 12n-3pm at the NC Museum of History in Raleigh. You can watch local pottery artist work their magic on the wheel and then have an opportunity to make your own clay creation.

Attend a free class on architectural photography at the State Capitol building from 11am til 1pm. An expert photographer will tech you how to capture original shots of the built environment.

From 10am til 4pm, It’s the Pork, Peanuts and Pickles festival celebrating North Carolina’s food history at Duke Homestead in Durham County.

At Historic Stagville in Durham County, listen to African drumming, blues and participate in crafts and games from 10am til 4pm.
