No relationship is free of conflict. Just about everybody feels their partner may have done something to disrespect them or let them down in some way. Licensed marriage and family therapist Bob Navarra says those things aren’t usually what throws a relationship off balance. Common reasons husbands/boyfriends start to resent their wives/girlfriends are:
- Not fighting fair. Happy couples don’t fight less, they just fight better. You should describe your feelings and needs and don’t label your partner as being faulty.
- Don’t treat him like a child. Don’t talk down to him.
- Don’t involve other people in your relationship.
- Show appreciation for things he does right.
- Don’t hold back sex as a form of punishment.
