Green Hope and Panther Creek have fought hard to stay in a conference with the current members of the Tri-9, but those efforts came up short when the N.C. High School Athletic Association Realignment Committee released its final draft on Friday.

The two schools from Cary will leave Wake County for the PAC 6 Conference, joining Hillside, Jordan, Northern Durham, Person and Riverside

Representatives from Green Hope and Panther Creek presented alternative plans to the NCHSAA Realignment Committee on Thursday morning. None of the alternative plans were accepted by the committee.

Both relatively new schools, Green Hope and Panther Creek have been a part of what is now the Tri-9 Conference since their opening. The current conference includes Apex, Athens Drive, Cary, Fuquay-Varina, Green Hope, Holly Springs, Lee County, Middle Creek and Panther Creek.

Southern Durham and East Chapel Hill are both members of the PAC 6 Conference right now, but in the new realignment both schools will drop from 4-A to 3-A, joining a conference with Cardinal Gibbons, Cedar Ridge, Chapel Hill, Northern Vance, Northwood, Orange and J.F. Webb.

The slots left by Southern Durham and East Chapel Hill meant the NCHSAA Realignment Committee had to add teams to the current PAC 6 Conference.

The Realignment Committee’s proposal is one of the final steps in the process. In May, the NCHSAA Board of Directors will vote on the proposal to make it final. The new conferences will go into place for the 2013-2014 school year.

Harnett Central wins appeal

In the final round of appeals, Harnett Central got its wish.

The Trojans were granted their appeal to stay in the Greater Neuse River Conference with Clayton, East Wake, Garner, Knightdale, Rolesville (new school), Southeast Raleigh and West Johnston.

Harnett Central moved up to 4-A from 3-A during the last realignment in 2009. They have been a member of the Greater Neuse River Conference ever since.

The original realignment proposal had Harnett Central joining the current Tri-9 Conference.

Broughton, Enloe to remain in Cap 8

The current Cap 8 Conference will remain in tact.

After the initial proposal sent Broughton and Enloe to the Greater Neuse River Conference, an appeal earlier in the process sent Broughton and Enloe back to the Cap 8.

The Cap 8 consists of Broughton, Enloe, Heritage, Leesville Road, Millbrook, Sanderson, Wake Forest-Rolesville and Wakefield.

The new Rolesville High School will not join the Cap 8, instead it will move to the Greater Neuse River Conference with Clayton, East Wake, Garner, Harnett Central, Knightdale, Southeast Raleigh and West Johnston.
