The Washington Football Team have added speed and youth to their wide receiver corps, signing free agents Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan.
Both fit the bill as offensive playmakers, which Washington Football Team coaches said was a need at the end of last season.
Garcon, 6-0 and 210 pounds, entered the NFL in 2008 as a sixth-round draft pick (205th overall) of the Indianapolis Colts.
He was productive each of the last four seasons, totaling 188 career passes for 2,519 yards – a 13.4 yards-per-catch average – and 16 touchdowns.
He had a 57-yard touchdown grab against the Washington Football Team in a 2010 game at FedExField won by the Colts 27-24.
Garcon caught passes from future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning his first three years in Indianapolis, but he had his best season last year when Manning was sidelined with a neck injury.
Garcon started all 16 games last year and posted a career-best 70 catches for 947 yards and six touchdowns. He also had a career-long 87-yard touchdown catch.
He is a West Palm Beach, Fla., native of Haitian descent. He played college football at Mount Union.
With the Colts undergoing a roster overhaul, Garcon and a number of long-time Colts – including Manning – are departing the franchise.
Morgan, 6-1 and 215 pounds, is a Washington, D.C, native who played high school football at H.D. Woodson.
He also starred at Virginia Tech alongside Royal and then he joined the San Francisco 49ers as a sixth-round draft pick (174th overall) in 2008.
Morgan started 32 of 49 games the last four years, catching 131 passes for 1,764 yards and nine touchdowns.
Last year, Morgan had 15 catches for 220 yards and one touchdown in five starts before suffering a broken ankle that ended his season.
Wide receiver was thought to be a Washington Football Team need heading into the offseason.
