The U.S. Department of Agriculture is buying seven million pounds of ammonia-treated meat which is referred to as “lean beef trimmings” or “pink slime.” The meat has been banned by fast food companies such as McDonald’s, Burger King and Taco Bell.

The meat will be used for school lunch for students around the country. The meat is controversial due to its use of ammonium hydroxide which is harmful to eat and also used in bombs and cleaning materials.
