// New York Times bestselling author Kimberla Lawson Roby Returns with New Release — Her 15th Title in Her 15th Year in Publishing

Continuing in the success of what increasingly is proving a fan favorite, New York Times bestselling author Kimberla Lawson Roby returns with the eighth installment in her hugely popular Rev. Curtis Black series. Roby’s latest work, LOVE, HONOR, AND BETRAY

The infamous Reverend Curtis Black’s sordid past is no secret, as his wife, Charlotte, is well aware. But when Curtis’ long-time mistress and mother of his illegitimate two-year-old, dies, he and Charlotte have no choice but to raise Curtina together. Sadly, though, while Curtis couldn’t be happier about the new permanent addition to their family, the living, breathing reminder of her husband’s infidelity infuriates Charlotte. Despite her best efforts to keep her feelings hidden, Charlotte resents Curtina and treats the young girl accordingly. When confronted about her behavior, however, Charlotte starts spending time away from home, all the while getting closer to her ex-boyfriend. Curtis appears to devote himself to his parish and the new church they’re building, but is he really focusing his attention on the female parishioners trying to lure him into bed? Suddenly Curtis and Charlotte find themselves slipping into dangerous territory, and not even Curtis’ seven-figure salary can prevent what is about to happen.

LOVE, HONOR, AND BETRAY marks the 15th title for Roby, who also is celebrating her 15th year in publishing. “I am incredibly grateful to have experienced such an amazing and very blessed journey,” says Roby. “Sometimes it’s hard to believe that so many years have passed and that there was a time when I received many, many rejection letters from literary agents and publishers. Of course, I did dream about having a successful publishing career and hoped for it, but I don’t think I ever fully thought I’d make national bestseller lists or write 15 titles in 15 years.”

A former financial analyst, Roby took a leap of faith in 1996 when she walked away from her near $30,000 salary to self-publish her first book, BEHIND CLOSED DOORS — largely at the encouragement of her husband, Will. Within six months, she had sold 10,000 copies, gaining the attention of Kensington Publishing, which bought her second book, HERE AND NOW, just before Black Classic Press picked up the rights to BEHIND CLOSED DOORS.

Roby’s CASTING THE FIRST STONE (Kensington, 1/00), the first book in the Rev. Curtis Black series, was a #1 BlackBoard bestseller for four consecutive months and won the BlackBoard Bestsellers Fiction Book of the Year award. LOVE, HONOR, AND BETRAY picks up Reverend Curtis Black’s life where New York Times bestselling THE BEST OF EVERYTHING (William Morrow, 1/09) left off.

Roby’s novels — which tackle real-life social issues — have frequented bestseller lists,

including The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, Essence magazine, Upscale magazine, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Walmart and many others. Her 13th book and second novella, A DEEP DARK SECRET, was the Essence Book Club Recommended Read by Essence magazine for November 2009. She received the Female Author of the Year award from the African-American Literary Award Show in 2010, 2009, 2007 and 2006. Among other honors, she also received the 1998 First-Time Author Award from Chicago’s Black History Month Book Fair and Conference.
